Project Light, The Legend Of Zelda
- 14th Apr  [by

]
Crysis-Online forum member Arch recently released the 6'th version of his weekly update concerning his total conversion mod for Crysis,
Project Light, The Legend Of Zelda.
Enjoy!
Hello again to all of you and welcome to our final weekly update for April and May.
In today's weekly update I'll explain to you what our current plans are regarding our project and we'll give you a heads up on our team's status. In comparison to our previous weekly updates, this'll be a shorter update.
Hibernation
We're going silent until the 31st of May. Allow me to explain..
We're releasing our teaser in a couple of weeks from now, hopefully on the 31st of May. Now, as you all know we're intending to keep much of our storyline a secret until that time comes.. Plus, seeing our teaser video contains a whole bunch of it, it would be rather stupid to give you all a weekly update without the update part of it all.
But, we will inform you on a weekly base whether or not we're still going.
We know that this might not compensate for 6 weekly updates, but at least it's still something. We'll still be around the forums and such, so if you feel like dropping a message, feel free to.
Once our teaser has been released, you'll be given a nice amount of screenshots, renders and wallpapers.. And most rewarding of all, more information on our storyline..
Start counting down..
Project: Light Campaign
We wouldn't leave you for 6 weeks without giving you some more details on our campaign.. So here we go! This week, I'll talk about the plot, just a tiny bit.
The Triforce is one of the key objects in our campaign, once again a villain tries claim its wish granting power for him/herself. For the people that don't know what the Triforce is, it's a sacred golden relic that consists out of three separate parts. Once all three have been brought together the one who touches it can wish for whatever that person's heart desires.
Our main villain in our campaign will try everything in his or her power to obtain it. The kingdom in which Sorceress lives is the first one to feel the devastating power of this new force. When you're playing as her, re-living her memories before the destruction of the kingdom, you will witness the final few hours in which the kingdom is still standing.
There will also be some epic battles in which you will be forced to take part in, in order to make sure that the kingdom doesn't get overrun. But ultimate,as I said before, Sorceress is the only survivor of an extermination, so we know how this battle turns out.. But does it mean that all of what she did was in vain..? That'll be up to you to decide..
Team Obsidian Fire's status update!
Coloniser has appeared!
Yes, once again we welcome a new member to the team. His name's Jack aka Coloniser, you might remember him from the CG Zelda short movie called, Dark Sage. Colonise's job on our team will range from animating to modeling. If you've ever seen his Zelda movie, you'll agree that he's a very talented individual! If you haven't,
go check it out here
.
The music team
Remember last weekly update? I promised I'd give you guys an update on who'll be in charge of the music.. Unfortunately, I won't be able to do that today. But, I'll try to give you a small update as soon as we get things sorted out!
We're still going!
We're still looking for dedicated people who'd like to help us out. We've still got vacancies you can check out
here
. So if you know someone or you'd happen to be interested in helping us out, just drop me an email at thomasv-l@hotmail.com.
I know some people might actually be upset about this, but in the end.. It'll be worth the wait.
Oh.. it'll most definitely be worth the wait..

Crytek's Cevat Yerli interview
- 12th Apr  [by
Flamed up
]
In our continued quest to bring you all the answers (and questions) around ray tracing and gaming, we have published quite a few articles from our own editorial staff as well as interviews with key people in the gaming industry. We have had Daniel Pohl, previously a college student doing research but subsequently hired by Intel for their own research, write a pair of articles that analyze how ray tracing might be the future for gaming on the PC and elsewhere. I also interviewed Dr. David Kirk, Chief Scientist at NVIDIA on the topic of rasterization and ray tracing and most recently had a very in-depth conversation with id Software's John Carmack on the very same topic that you can also get in podcast form.
Obviously this is still a hotly contested debate: Intel is pushing for a ray tracing model for the future of game rendering while NVIDIA, Carmack and most others see a mix of rasterization and ray tracing as the future. Intel's push for ray tracing is more than likely a result of their upcoming Larrabee architecture and its inherent weakness with current GPU programming models; because it is essentially a many-core x86 compatible device it will be forced to emulate DirectX and OpenGL and probably won't have the power to compete with the dedicated GPU products from NVIDIA and AMD out of the gate. Emulation always produces a performance overhead that will cut back on the utilization of the full power of Intel's Larrabee and obviously they'd rather that NOT be the case.
What we have for you today is another in a series of interviews with key gaming minds that directly affect the world of gaming on your PC, and consoles, today and into the future. Cevat Yerli, the CEO of Crytek and responsible for two of the most visually stunning games ever, Far Cry and Crysis, took some time to answer questions for us on a range of topics centered around the rasterization versus ray tracing debate.

Best of luck to everyone that applies, as well as DouchBagMan's mod project!
Alright. Some of you may be aware that the Dirtbox Mapping Community has recently decided to create an affiliate organization: the Dirtbox Mod Team (DMT). This new division has stemmed from necessity as we have developed a plan for a multiplayer Crysis modification. We have hopes that this mod will re-invent Crysis MP with the same massive success and fan base that were seen in the infamous Counter-Strike mod for the Half-Life series.
At this point there are several things that you should be made aware of:
1) No name has of yet been finalized for the modification. However, there is a list of front-runner options. Once the entire DMT group is finalized, a vote will be cast among members to decide on the name.
2) The mod will be multiplayer exclusive and will take the form of a realistic modern-combat sim. All weapons, factions, environments, and vehicles, will be as true to their real-world counterparts as possible.
3) At release, the mod will be made up of 7-10 game modes, including, but not limited to: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Contract (Beat your oponents to complete a set objective), Protection (Assasinate a specific target), Capture the Flag and Assault (Destroy the other teams HQ).
4) There will be 2-4 factions, ranging from military to rebel factions. Each with a variety of different weapons and vehciles.
Rest assured that continuing updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
We are currently recruiting for all positions on our mod team. We need modelers, coders, mappers, designers, concept artists, the full works. If your interested then please get in contact with either Sawman or Douchbagman, or leave your details on our
FORUM
. We are currently updating the forum to meet all the needs of the modding team.
Thanks,
Douchbagman/Sawman3 (DMT Co-Lead)
