SP Level Roundup #28 - 16th Jun  [by thmage]Work In Progress Maps

Alpha Crysis

...is a WIP map that’s being created by crazyeyezkilla.

What with it being eight months since the release of Crysis, during that time the tropical jungle setting has obviously grown thin. Alpha Crysis, although another tropical island map, surpasses the norm with its unparalleled beauty not seen in any other map out there. After releasing his version of the GDC06 map here, crazyeyezkillah worked hard perfecting his mapping skills and today we have the obvious result; a stunning, jaw dropping tropical map. We've only included a small selection of the amazing available screenshots, so if you'd like to see the remainder then visit the forum thread here.

Surreal

...is a WIP level that’s being developed by atest.

Next up we have a previously unfeatured ICMC map to present to you! With not long to go until the deadline, the pressure is on for atest who has spent the previous weeks attempting to finish off his creation for the ICMC. Unlike many of the maps, it will be set predominantly in a nighttime setting featuring many twists and turns, and promises to be an exciting trip for those playing. We've got a few of his many screenshots here that show off his talent, and more images of which can be found in the Crymod forum thread.

Rainy Days

...is a work in progress map that’s under devevlopment by CaptainChris.

After having released his very successful first map The Harbour, CaptainChris has spent the time since then working on the maps official sequel. Featuring a variety of gameplay styles from all out tank battles to stealthing through small settlements, the map looks set to be another hit with the community. To show off his latest work he's taken some screenshots of various aspects of the map; a greater selection of these can be viewed inside his Crymod forum thread, which is located here.

Released Map

Eye of the Serpent

...is a finished level created by ace mcgee.

Possibly the most productive and fast working mapper on Crymod, ace mcgee is back with his popular "Z" series of maps with another set of levels named Eye of the Serpent. These seven maps track the player across an entire narrative story, with themes that range from chase scenes to stealth settings. With all the maps being the size of the average map in Crysis, you can expect hours and hours of gameplay. More screenshots from these maps can be viewed in the forum thread here, and if you like what you see then you can download the finished maps from the Crymod Download Database here.

Crytek working on PSP project - 16th Jun  [by Jamie]Perhaps a surprise, but Crytek has updated its official website with new job listings, it's currently looking for a PSP programmer to work in its Budapest office. Could we see a PSP version of Crysis? It could be so.

Crytek did say that after Crysis Warhead they will be developing new titles for other platforms, so perhaps handheld versions will be the next move, but fans will probably be more interested in console versions. We know we would be.

If anything more comes out from this we will let you know.

Legend of the Dragonballs Update - 15th Jun  [by Jamie]Team Aventis are currently working on a new modification for Crysis, Legend of the Dragonballs which is based on the Dragon Ball Z universe. The first few details on the basic overview of the mod have been revealed, along with some new screenshots of Dragonballs that are currently work in progress.

Mod Overview:
Our mod is a Third Person Fantasy Adventure modification based on the Dragonball series of Akira Toriyama. The singleplayer will start out with Goku as a kid hunting with his staff in the forest for food meeting Bulma, and getting introduced to the dragonballs for the first time. It will follow a little of the dragonball story to the Dragonball Z story and will go on to the very last end of the Buu Saga. We have decided to start with a battle mod instead of the story mod. The story is too big and will take to much time to do first. So we will make a battle mod, then possibly we will create the story mode later. We will see how you like it and it depends on if more people will join the team.

We're not sure how this one is going to turn out in the end, although a DragonBall mod could be enjoyable. We'll keep you informed on anymore progress with the mod.

Let us know what you think about it in the forums!

Crysis Franchise to be last PC-exclusive from Crytek - 9th Jun  [by Blablah]

Crytek has recently stated that Warhead will be the last of Crytek's PC-exclusive titles:

"He was referring to any new projects we will start in the future," Seeley
[Crytek's business manager] clarified to Next Generation. "Warhead has been under development for quite some time, and we had no desire or intention to disappoint our loyal PC fans. So, after some careful consideration, we decided to continue our support for the PC Crysis franchise with this release. But yes, all new franchises we develop in the future will be created with a cross platform strategy in mind."

He also stated that system requirements had no affect on Crysis' sales.
