We welcome you to the “Crysis Weekly Update #5”, which is an official status report from Crytek to the world-wide community in order to get you up to date on the progress of various Crysis related topics.

This time the update is a bit smaller since we got the first version of our Mod SDK released and patch 1.2 is still being verified by the QA (Quality Assurance) departments. Still, we have some progress news regarding the SDK itself and also about the Linux Dedicated Server for you. In addition we want introduce you to some new features, bug fixes and tweaks that are included in the upcoming patch 1.2.

Mod SDK – General Status
With more than 5.000 downloads of the Crysis Mod SDK v1.0 within only a few days the world-wide modding community received a tremendous boost and attracted a lot of interest. We are really looking forward to all the upcoming creations the modders out there will present and release and we are confident in the quality of the modifications you are working on.

Currently a few of the staff members are browsing our official forums on www.crymod.com trying to help in specific cases. Additionally we already began collecting feedback about what can be improved for the next SDK content-wise and what issues need to be resolved.

In addition to working on the SDK source code release, we are also working to improve the SDK documentation Even though the new Asset Creation manual we released in conjunction with the SDK provides quite a lot of documents to read through, there is much more to tell you.

With the upcoming weeks we want to get more and more manual pieces ready for the world-wide distribution which we will then put online on http://doc.crymod.com.

Linux Dedicated Server – Status
The Linux dedicated server is still in the works. We have met a number of issues over time that didn’t allow us to be able to test it fully yet, even though a major part of the work has been done.

However we have recently taken some decisive steps in order to have the right person work on that, and that should give this area of the development a great boost. We certainly will give you more details on the advance of the Linux dedicated server in the weeks to come, but know that we are on it!

Patch 1.2 – Bug Fixes & Features Introduction
In every Crysis Weekly Update we are going to feature a few of the upcoming bug fixes and/or features from the change log and talk about them a bit more detailed. The introduction for this update is:

Multiplayer – Improved Spectator Mode
This time we would like to introduce you to the spectator mode in Crysis multiplayer that has been improved and extended by a few new features. It was an important point for us to use the current existing spectator system and enhance its functionality to ease up its use and provide new ways of looking at players in different situations.

Following you will find a list of tweaks and bug fixes we have applied to the spectator mode in multiplayer.

Bug Fixes:
Fixed an issue in spectator mode where the player's view could clip through the top of objects.

Fixed issue where player was automatically assigned armor mode when switching to spectator team.

Fixed issue where the spectator view zooms across map.

Fixed issue where spectators don't see player names in IA.

Tweaks:
Tweaked spectator camera so view is more horizontal.

Delayed manual switching to spectator mode right after death.

New Features:
Added free-rotation support for spectator camera.

Added zooming support for spectator camera.

To show off the tweaks and new features we have created a small video for you which you can watch further below. This video is also available for download in low and high quality.

Change Log Abstract

Notice CRYTEK playing in DX9 using the "VERY HIGH" tweaks during that stress test with just a single GPU and no FSAA @ 1024x768? Grin

XP just plays this game sooooo much better at very high. in MP I get 50+ FPS outdoors on every map, 50 being the LOWEST @ 1680x1050 Smiley

In Vista CRYSIS runs like extra chunky cottage cheese :*(

Do not say such things, my new PC will have Vista and I trust that it will run the game quite well (fingers crossed).

The patch is looking really good. Smiley
