IGN: In what ways has the CryENGINE evolved since Crysis? What improvements have been made? Have you focused on improving visual fidelity, performance, or both?

Harald Seeley: There have been so many improvements it's really hard to know where to start. Adding native support for DirectX 10 and Vista, re-working our multi-threading approach to support the latest multi-core processors, implementing our greatly expanded integrated physics system,
*cough*
Any chance of a patch with any of that stuff, Crytek?

Also, I bet someone is mad at him for saying that, since it says a few things about the engine which were supposed to be the opposite...
The bold stuff.

eh... the best we can hope for is a patch, or it being implemented into crysis 2 or what ever the continuation of the story is called.

They just had to include a chicken in that Teapot demo, didn't they?  Tongue

Whatever the improvements, I hope they make it in time to be fully functional in Crysis 2.

Colorful, but hardly innovative. I think this comment says it all: (Spelling Errors Corrected)

"The biggest problem right now is that processors have just about hit their limit as far as clock speed. They simply cannot physically go any faster with the current materials/technology. Which is why we've seen the increase in multiple cores, but unfortunately the most you add the more inefficient it'll get, you'll need CPUs just to tell the CPUs what to do."

For those less knowledgeable, many game developers use multiple processors to power their games, but the consumer is at a loss when trying to run the game on a standard machine.

It's not their fault that they're moving forward, while you're staying in the past.

PC gaming is a high-end world.

I got my dual core processor for $40 dollars, upgraded from a 3000+ Athlon 64 single core to a 3600+ Dual core Athlon X2, socket 939.

Then I bought an 8800GT for $200.

$240, and I can play any game maxed out.

That's not Sandbox2? What program is that?

What settings are those...cause if it is Very High, I am VERY disappointed. Halo 3 looks better than that! Operation Flashpoint Beta(Beta Pictures) Looks better than that! That had better be on High or Medium.

It's a physics demonstration.

Anyways, did you see the draw distance of the city? It's a full-blown city. It's freakin' huge!

Oh...nevermind then, cause I thought it was meant to demonstrate the capability of real-time, pysics AND graphics. Oh well. And yes, I did see the draw distance.

Um... We have been going on and on about how superior Crysis realism in terms of graphics are and you are trying to shun it to compare it to Halo 3?HuhHuh I spit on that comment.

This is the best screenie i could find of halo 3's "graphics"

And here of course is CryEngine:

Flashpoint 2

These games dont even come close... I do not know what you were looking at - but the only game that looks like it is going to come close to Crysis in terms of Visual Fidelity in the near future is Far Cry 2 and we can see that that is not going to be as good graphics wise. Crysis is the top on graphics so you really got to flush those statements out of your head somewhere else o_O

It's not their fault that they're moving forward, while you're staying in the past.

Its the inbuilt movie thing, called "timeline" or something. Cant remember exactly, havent opened the program in ages. Just allows you to do the cameras for the movie bits of it Tongue

Great find Armoured, thanks a million for posting! Smiley
I've moved the thread to "News Discussion" and made it front page news.

This is absolutely amazing, I can't wait to see what other developers can achieve.

I think a few of you are missing the point here.  Just think what Crytek has accomplished here.  You have thousands upon thousands of an odd shaped object, a teapot, all interacting with the environment - in real time.  Think of the processing going on here, these multitude of objects following Newtonian physics, and the trajectory of motion, force and gravity.

If you look closely you can see the complexity and the detail in action - these objects spinning as they fly through the air, respond correctly to gravity, and respond correctly when they strike the ground, other stationary objects, and even respond accurately when they collide with other moving teapots.  All the while set in an amazingly vast and detailed city. This is no small feat. It is a testament to the ingenuity of this relatively small game studio.  Well done, and amazing indeed!
