They will probably have some effect like God ray sprites, which would be a faked god ray effect, I am betting.

Ya know, If they made a cryengine2 game on the Consoles and it was mostly inside environments it would probably run really really well. Even though that pretty much kills a lot of the awesome the cryengine2 can do.

Yeah, it would look quite nice, and I am pretty sure most of the CE2 games will be more geared towards indoors, as most console games are, and because of hardware limitations.
Compare the normal GOW levels to the GOWPC exclusive levels, the PC exclusive levels are much larger, and Epic said they couldn't bring it to the 360 because of memory constraints and the size of the open areas.

Well hell, I look forward to it then. I'm not above closed in FPS.

Yeah, the CE2 can do damn awesome indoor environments, I mean hell, look at the Core level!
Best graphical moment in any game ever, it gave CGI a run for it's money, and was really the only part of the game that looked like (or better), then the CoreX goal.

Yeah, thats true.
If it wasn't for the smoke effect I think the FPS would have been much better.

I read through these posts and all i see is pessimism, as i somewhat expected.
No **** they will never get CE2 looking as good on consoles than PC but to get it looking close to High is a damn good achievment by any means. If the proposed game is mainly indoors, kudos to that! How fucking sweet did the Carrier level look on the inside? And at least they've worked around the memory constraints Cevat mentioned in the past. As someone (I think Flamed) mentioned before, it's Crytek developing the game(s) not Ubisoft so expected nothing short of something immense.
Crytek would be jokers if they weren't to enter the console market.

I think the pc-only crowd here is just scared of losing crytek to the consoles, kinda like what's happening with epic. For someone who owns and enjoys both I can still sympathize with them.

Actually, Crytek is only developing a PS3 game based around the CE2 (And that is Crytek Kiev, not the Crytek Frankfurt that made Crysis).
The other CE2 games are going to be made by other devs, as Crytek wants to cash in on their amazing engine.
And yes, the Carrier level looked awesome, especially in the very dark portion of the game. I was thinking "I would sooo love to have a scary game made like this".

Yes, but what happens when they start selling more than the Crysis devs?

You look at some of the remarks Cevat Yerli has made.
Crytek Kiev is run by another Yerli brother.
Also, so what if Crytek starts to make console games? Almost all 360 games come to the PC, as almost all PC games go to the 360. It was a huge complaint at the Mass Effect forums, they were asking why they have a 360 when every good 360 game is on the PC.
It is something Microsoft has been trying to do for awhile. Bring the 360 and PC together in a sense. It allows for a larger game base on both platforms, and gives them an edge over their competition.
The only good 360 game I know of that isn't either on the 360, or set to be on the 360 is Star Wars: The Force Unleashed.

Yeah, give it time it will be on PC.
I think if they were smart they would have made the 360 mouse and keyboard-able. That would have helped with some cross platform play that they were pushing a while back.
I don't actually expect all CE2 games coming out to look as good as crysis or anywhere near as good really.
Take the UE3, most companies that use that engine don't even compare to epics utilization of the engine, save for a few.

Don't get me wrong, I love for them to make console games... but do you honestly believe that after gears-like succes on consoles they wouldn't just shift focus like everyone else is doing atm? especially whith the pirating rates they and others are experiencing now. At some point having both teams making console games could get very tempting!

I would say Bioware is the only one.

Not really, Crytek seems to be one of the only companies with true beliefs and ethics.
Also, Crysis is selling extremely well on the PC, it is selling just as well as a AAA title on the consoles, actually.
Oh, and if they want to get rid of pirating, there is something called Steam, which would all but eliminate said pirating. Most games are going to it now, actually.
Also, Epic didn't switch focus, they just made a console devision head by Cliffy B. They are still very into their PC games, and are even now a part of the PC Gaming Alliance.
Oh, and don't forget that they made special content for Gears PC only. Oh, and also remember their little arguments and threatenings with Microsoft over requiring the GOW DLC to be $10, instead of what Epic wanted, free.
Take a look at Bioware. When they released Jade Empire for the Xbox, it took them 2 years to make a PC version, yet with Mass Effect, it took them about a half-year. Not to mention their PC-exclusive game, Dragon Age.

do you think the console version of CE2 will have comparable physics to the PC version of CE2?
by that i mean, destructable environments in the way of Trees, those houses, props... etc.

To put it simple, the reason why consoles win over the PC is simple:
1) Consoles get better Graphics over time with the same hardware.
2) PC's Graphics get worst over time with the same hardware.
Now, If I can get (And some others) Crysis running on a Sub 1ghz processor, and a Radeon 9600 class Graphics card and only 512mb of memory, with our knowledge of tweaking our systems for maximum performance and obtain Low Quality, then something is wrong isn't it? I actually could get Medium Quality settings on the same machine just by dropping in an old x800GTO - Mind you Physics had to be on low, the system did not have enough grunt to do any serious Physics calculations.
But it stands to reason that the memory limitation isn't as great as one might think, as a coder myself I know the limitations of memory you have to keep in mind while creating a game or program, and once the game/program is finished, and it say... consumes 1gb of memory, then removing un-needed lists, dumbing down procs and vars can actually lead to some nice memory gains.
I think the console devs are getting around the RAM limitations pretty well. Of course it somewhat limits what they can do theoretically with let's say a game like Crysis, some of the effects can be "Faked" for better performance without loosing to much image quality, the game also doesn't have to install itself, so having it packed onto the disc in an efficient manner could produce a performance increase.
Then you have the Hard Disk Drive, This is probably the PS3's advantage here as every SKU has a Hard Disk Dive, which can act as a cache to store something like, Textures, which the game will then automatically use a form of Branch Prediction to find out which texture it will need next, and start preparing the Hard Disk Drive to send the Data into the System Memory for use immediately.
The Problem with the Hard Disk Drive is that it is slow, thus using compression algorithms like 3Dc Texture Compression, S3 Texture Compression and what not could provide some nice memory management gains, better performance, and lower memory consumption.
Basically the View Distance becomes less of a factor depending on how skilled the developers are with memory management and employ the proper tools, personally if they can only get "Slightly Less" than High Quality than on the Xbox 360, with only 512mb of memory, then they have already done an amazing feat, if they do more optimizations and spend a bit more time with the game, achieving High Quality could be an easily obtainable setting.

One thing that Physics is reliant on is, Processing Power which the current consoles (Except the Wii) do not lack.

This really is great news. CE2 for consoles, more money for Crytek, more games for us.
And I really don't care if Crysis comes to consoles. The upcoming mods for Crysis, the maps and the graphic tweaks are really what I love about this game. Freedom is everything, and consoles don't have what I'm looking for there.

Oops, little mistake, I said "When they made Dragon Age for the Xbox", but I meant to say Jade Empire, as Dragon Age isn't out yet.
