Welcome to another update from the Lost World Returns team regarding their upcoming mod based on the hit Jurassic Park sequel. It's been a while since the last Crymod update on this mod so we've packed together all the new material from the last few weeks into an exciting update. Today we've got some new renders of the dinosaurs we're going to see in the mod, some new audio plus a luscious wallpaper that the team have released.
New Dinosaur Models
Over the past few weeks the team have been working hard on some new dino's that will be in the upcoming mod. The creatures in question this week are the Gallimimus and the Deinonychus.
Gallimimus
The Gallimimus was rather ostrich-like, with a small head, large eyes, a long neck, short arms, long legs, and a long tail. The tail was used as a counter-balance. The eyes were located on the sides of its head, meaning that it did not possess binocular vision. Like most modern birds, it had hollow bones. Gallimimus had a number of adaptations which suggest good running ability, such as long limbs, a long tibia and metatarsus and short toes, but it is unknown how fast it could run. Shown below is the Lost World Returns adapatation of this fantastic creature.
Deinonychus
There is fossil evidence that suggests Deinonychus was a pack hunter, using the superiority of numbers to take down large prey. Much like wolves, there would be an Alpha male and Alpha female in a pack, with the alpha animals in control of the rest of the pack. Most Deinonychus packs would consist of about 4 to 6 animals. There would be a strict pecking order for food, with the alpha dinosaurs eating first. Deinonychus was a very quick animal, running at speeds of up to 50 Km/H. To avoid being ripped apart by these quick predators, watch all your fronts and stay together at all times! Screens of this fearsome dino are shown below.New Soundtrack Audio
Not only has there been work on the 3D assets in the game, but there has also been development on the soundtrack being specially produced for the mod. The team has very kindly included some track samples of their new audio. Below is a quote from the creator of the soundtrack as to his inspiration and purpose for the track.I wanted to do my best to capture a number of different ideas in this piece, and I'm hoping it's come across. Specifically, I wanted a sense of the brooding, large, threatening presence of the dinosaurs - because, let's face it, it's all about the dinosaurs! That's why the opening is as it is. At the same time though, I also wanted to elevate LWR above many other mods by giving it a recognizable, epic, and memorable main theme that captures the modern feel of Crysis game environment while also featuring a bit of stylistic throwback to the cinematic scoring of the films.
What I've come up with is something that I think serves as a good introductory piece - something that people can hear and immediately link to the project, so that whenever the theme recurs in other portions of the soundtrack (which it will do), they can already be familiar with it and thus experience a heightened sense of immersion into the (lost) world we're creating. It's not meant to fully develop the theme, because that's what various other cues will do; this is simply the bold, bombastic introduction to the theme: the initial statement that I'm hoping does a good job of representing what we're all about. Enjoy it and stay tuned for more updates as I keep writing!
New Teaser Wallpaper
Finally, as if that weren't enough, to show off to the community the type of environment we'll expect to be playing in on release of the mod the team has released a wallpaper showing off their luscious jungle environment. If you'd like to use the wallpaper as your background, click on the image, right click on the larger version and click "Set As Background".If you'd like to see more info and screens on the mod, or would like to give feedback on this weeks update, then you do all that and more in the forum thread found here.
